Your questions answered

I understand you might have questions about finding the right maths tutor for your child. Below, you'll find answers to common queries about my approach, qualifications, and how my tutoring services work to ensure the best possible learning experience.

Frequently asked questions

With decades of experience and a passion for building confidence,  I offer tailored tutoring that makes a real difference. I am dedicated to helping students achieve their potential, whether face-to-face or online, and here are the answers to some things you might be wondering.

Are you familiar with the relevant exam boards?

Yes, I am thoroughly familiar with the specific exam boards for GCSE, A-Level, and Further Maths. This ensures that tuition is directly aligned with the curriculum and assessment requirements your child will face.

Are you DBS cleared?

Yes, I am fully DBS cleared, providing peace of mind for parents regarding the safety and suitability of my services.

How does online tuition work?

Online tuition is conducted interactively using video conferencing and digital whiteboards. It allows for flexible scheduling and effective learning from the comfort of your home. We'll share screens, work through problems together, and ensure a seamless experience.

What hardware is needed for online tuition?

For online tuition, your child will need a computer (desktop or laptop; PC or Mac) with a webcam and microphone, or an iPad and separate phone , together with a reliable internet connection, and ideally, a graphics tablet and pen for writing on "the whiteboard". I can advise on suitable and affordable options. The "whiteboard" is a web page on which we can both read and write at the same time; I will provide this. I use What's App for the teleconferencing aspect; this needs to be installed on the iPad or laptop

What are your teaching times and do you teach at weekends?

I offer flexible a range of teaching times in late afternoon and early evening. Please contact me directly to discuss availability and find a slot that works best for your child.

What makes your teaching style effective?

My teaching style is entirely individualised, always starting from the student's current understanding and building from there. I'll ensure a good grasp of current school material, revisit past topics, and then work ahead to maximise revision time before exams. The focus is on building skills and confidence.

What are common achievements students experience after working with you?

While it's difficult to quantify every success, most students report achieving better grades than they would have had without my support, and indeed better than their predicted grade. Frequently, I end up tutoring more than one student from the same school class due to recommendations from the first student, which speaks to the positive outcomes experienced.

How does scheduling and lesson structure work?

Lessons are typically one hour long, scheduled at a mutually convenient time. It is often possible to add in additional lessons in school holiday times, or during study leave, and generally extra sessions closer to exams. I offer both online and face-to-face options, depending on your preference and location.
